1. Installation
Move or Copy the filter plug-in to your Photoshop filters folder, (re)start Photoshop, then the filter should be available under:
filter --> Digital Imaging Tools --> White Point...
2. Color Patch
The color patch shows the white point currently selected. A white point can be selected in 4 different ways:
1). by clicking in the image,
this transfers the color of the area that was clicked into the colorpatch.
2). by option-clicking the colorpatch,
this will let the plugin find the lightest color and colorcast automatically.
3). by command-clicking the colorpatch,
this will transfer the current foreground color from the image editing software into the colorpatch.
4). by clicking the colorpatch itself,
this brings up the colorpicker to select a custom color.
3. High Light Adjustment
The High Light Adjustment slider allows you to "over" or "under" expose the selected white point. Adjusting to the right makes the white point "break out" and the image becomes lighter. This is useful in case of glare in the image for example.
Adjusting the slider to the left makes the white point darker, which can be useful if the image goes to press.
4. Color Cast Reduction
If the white point is not pure (where the R, G, and B channels are equal), the white point is said to have a color-cast. The Color Cast Reduction allows you to selectively remove the color cast in the white point. Adjusting this slider to the right will entirely remove the color-cast so that the white point selected becomes entirely white in the image. This would be equivalent to using auto-levels in photoshop.
Adjusting the slider to the left will leave the colorcast untouched. This would be equivalent to moving the main white point slider in the photoshop levels control.
+ the hl slider controls the high light color cast, a value of 50% usually is sufficient in most cases.
+ the mt slider controls the mid tones color cast, this slider affects the image most.
